چکیده
Abstract Background Lumboperitoneal (LP) shunts have been described as a safe and effective option for idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH). However, it had many complications, including migration. Herein, we report our experience regarding the incidence, different sites, presentation, management of LP shunt migration in patients with IIH. Patients methods This retrospective series reviewed data IIH who after during period between January 2018 June 2021. Results From 67 shunt, 12 developed Two cases intrathecal migration, while three intraperitoneal In four cases, distal tube migrated to subcutaneous location at abdomen, whereas other two proximal outside thecal sac back. one case, from abdomen back subcutaneously. Conclusion The insertion appears be relatively technique. Shunt on hand, is common side effect. While various theories proposed explain good fixation remains most critical component preventing

Complications of Lumboperitoneal Shunts for Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension
For the past half century, the mainstay of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunting for idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) has been lumboperitoneal (LP) shunt surgery. LP shunts have been associated with higher failure rates compared to ventriculoperitoneal shunts. However, there is no uniformity in the reporting of complication and surgical revision rates. The goals of this study were to und...

For the past half century, the mainstay of cerebrospinal fluid shunting for normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) has been ventriculoperitoneal shunt surgery. Lumboperitoneal (LP) shunt has been used occasionally and seemed to be associated with higher failure rates compared to ventriculoperitoneal shunts. There is no uniformity in the reporting of complication and surgical revision rates. Goals ...

BACKGROUND AND AIMS A prospective study was carried out to evaluate the lumboperitoneal shunt procedure. MATERIAL AND METHODS Four hundred and nine patients having communicating hydrocephalus were selected for the procedure during a 10-year period from March 1992 to February 2002. The average follow-up was 45.34 months. RESULTS Tubercular meningitis (TBM)-related hydrocephalus was detected ...
متن کاملLaparoscopic Management of Ventriculoperitoneal and Lumboperitoneal Shunt Complications
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Minimally invasive approaches for the initial placement of ventriculoperitoneal (VP) and lumboperitoneal (LP) shunts have been well described. A laparoscopic approach has multiple advantages over open techniques, including decreased morbidity, more rapid recovery, and ability to visually assess catheter function. However, few series have addressed the role of laparosco...
متن کاملIntraoperative fluoroscopy with contrast medium for correct lumbar catheter placement in lumboperitoneal shunts
We use intraoperative fluoroscopy with contrast medium for correct placement of lumbar catheters in lumboperitoneal (LP) shunts. The patients are in the left or right lateral decubitus position on a radiolucent operating table and a portable C-arm fluoroscope is placed vertically. After confirming the puncture level fluoroscopically, a lumbar puncture is performed. The catheter is introduced in...
